it's probably clogged everything, pipes, pump etc. Will probably cost you 100 times the money you've saved on fuel to repair it.

if you crack the top nut on the injectors whils cranking the engine you should see fuel coming from the nut

until after about10 to 12 cranks it kicks over;when it does ,it runs great the whole day no problems,,but when i get up the next day the same thing. The starter can do that sometimes but I actually think its your battery since it gets cgarged once the car starts but battles to power the starter every morning. You can have a check done free of charge at a battery specialist. They will also check your alternator for charge.

ive tried fuel injector cleaning service, and the bottles you buy at auto parts stores, but these things can only go so far.

after almost 17 years of wear and tear, i would like to know when it would be appropriate to change them.

You can change them whenever you want, but they're not exactly part of your scheduled maintenance. And unless you're building a race car with a custom computer, I would replace them with original equipment or equivalent, as extra fuel flow will just cause your car's computer to shorten the injector pulse width to reduce the fuel anyways. Not at all. They should last almost forever. And some of the cleaners work fine.

You need a scan tool to read data for injector balance rates. And when you pin point which injector it is,you still need to do a compression test,because,the computer can be getting fooled for a power loss in that cylinder and is adding fuel to overcome it. You really should check the extended warranty for injectors. Thats not a leaking fuel injector. That is worn piston rings. The smoke is caused by oil leaking into the combustion chamber. The fuel in the oil is the fuel leaking from the combustion chamber to the crankcase.

    These cars have a pre pump n the tank. If this is not working properly, the main fuel pump can be starved, esp when it is cold as the vapor pressure is low. This can cause surging, hard starting, and stalling.

    I hate to correct someone, but James B is incorrect. The crankshaft position sensor on a Grand Cherokee is on the back of the engine and is kind of cumbersome to get to. No you don't have to pull the flywheel to change it. You may need to remove the crossmember to let the transmission drop down a little to get to it. It bolts in through the top of the transmission, just behind the engine on the driver side.



    The camshaft position sensor is indeed inside of the distributor. I would be more suspect of the crankshaft position sensor than I would the cam sensor.     The camshaft position sensor, or CMP sensor is located inside the distributor. The crank sensor is on front of engine behind crank pulley.

    i ran out of gas in my 1989 jeep cherokee 4.0,v6. i checked the valv technique on the injector rail and there was no fuel coming just air up the sistem.

    then i got a new fuel pump in, new fuel filter, and new fuel pump relay. i can hear the fuel pump rumble inside the tank but there is still no fuel coming out of the tank.

    is there any other thing that i need to do in order to get that gas out of the thank and into my injectors?

    can the new fuel pump not be working properly?

    You may have crossed the ful lines at the tank. (Retun line and feed line)I assume you have pulled the line at the tank and are looking for fuel from thepump at the tank.
