Find %26amp; fix the leak first. raw gas %26amp; hot engine parts don't mix wellI have bmw 320i 1988 and i want to ask how to know that i need to change the fuel filter?
If you are smelling gas, you have a leak. Check around the injectors after the motor has been running and been driven. You should be able to see a visible means of the leak. I have an 87 Accord that was doing the same thing and I had 2 injector seals leaking. I would check this first. If you don't have any leaks that you see, then start checking the fuel lines and seals around the injection system. That smell is coming from somewhere. This would also account for the performance being off and I bet your mileage is down as well.I have bmw 320i 1988 and i want to ask how to know that i need to change the fuel filter?

When you change the fuel filter look for leaks in the fuel lines.

You might also check the exhaust system to see if the catalytic converter or some other part is clogged. That would also cause low power.I have bmw 320i 1988 and i want to ask how to know that i need to change the fuel filter?
sounds like you have head gasket/intake manifold problem. you may need to change that before you clean the fuel injectors. The reason you have low horsepower is a vacuum leak or compression leak is developed once the gasket composition ibreaks down. There may be a pinch in the gasket which allows air to escape since it's no longer tightly sealed. you can also check for a vacuum hose that's not attached to the proper port. This is also a sign that you need a gasket. The pressure from the intake builds up,seeps out and creates a backdraft of pressure throughout the air compression system of the engine that in turn causes hoses to be 'blown off'. 98.9% chance it's the gasket because you smell fuel AND low compression/horsepower. So, get the gasket changed first then clean the injectors. That should solve the problem.

  • Missfiring problems with mazda tribute 03 model v6?

I have changed fuel filter, removed fuel injectors for bench check, replaced plugs, metered coils with multimeter, all to no avail this engine misfires and surges under load or cruising and idles rough can hear intermittent miss even on idle. Can anybody give me some more ideas on this engine, the engine fault light does not come on, how is air flow meter checked and o2 sensor checked,if these are faulty does engine fault light come on? Are coils a common fault with this engineMissfiring problems with mazda tribute 03 model v6?
have an 01 tribute v6, had rough idle problems but not misfiring under load, engine would misfire until it warmed up. replaced a lot of parts but finally found that the lower intake gaskets were bad. Also when you replaced the spark plugs did you replace the plenum gaskets.Missfiring problems with mazda tribute 03 model v6?
I had this same problem - the replaced both my upper and lower intake manifold gaskets. Runs great now.

2000 Chevy 4.8 Fuel Injector Porblem?

I have a 2000 Z-71 with a 4.8 how hard is it to change a fuel injector also any web sites that have pics or a detailed instructuions would greatly help thanks2000 Chevy 4.8 Fuel Injector Porblem?
It is not too difficult at all. Just take the fuel rail off that has the injector you are replacing. Take the retainer off that holds the injector on. The new injector will already have the retainer so it will just snap on.

    Changing O-rings on fuel injectors?

How hard is it to change the o rings on the fuel injectors on a 1990 nissan stanza. I have about 2% of automotive know how..Changing O-rings on fuel injectors?
Don't do it. It will be much cheaper to pay a mechanic to do it right the first time. This way you don't have to pay a tow bill on top of the cost to have him replace them. It is generally not too hard but it in very critical to have everything perfect. Hope I have been helpful.Changing O-rings on fuel injectors?
The biggest problem is that the fuel system will probably still be under pressure. Having a mechanic handle things will be your safest bet.

But if you want to change them yourself, here's what is likely to be involved.

    1. Drain off the pressure in the fuel rail. There may be a valve for this.

    2. Disconnect the fuel inlet and outlet lines from the fuel rail.

    3. Remove the electrical connectors from the fuel injectors. This may require lifting out a little wire clip using a needle nose pliers.

    4. Unscrew the fuel rail and lift it off.

    5. The injectors can now be pulled out.

    6. Remove the O-rings and put new ones on.

    7. Reassemble in reverse order.

A repair manual such as the ones by Haynes will be a very big help here.

Is it hard to change the timing on a fuel injector?

i have a 1992 ford f350 7.3 litter diesel and ive had the fuel pump, fuel lines, alternater, batteries, fuel fillter and glow plugs changed and it still wont start but only in the mornings. After its started it will run fine the rest of the day and my buddy told me the fuel injector timing was off and i was wondering if that could be it or not,and if so how hard it is to change itIs it hard to change the timing on a fuel injector?
I'm not aware of any way to modify the injector timing - this comes from your computer. While there are some devices that can modify the way your computer responds, the injector pulse width is normally driven by values in a table based on the performance desired and known variables relating to your engine and the vehicle specs.

I didn't see pressure regulator mentioned in your lengthy list of repairs? Have you verified the fuel rail pressure? I would place injector timing at the bottom of my list of probable issues. (Unless there's a TSB for this.)Is it hard to change the timing on a fuel injector?
You might want to see if the fuel lines are placed correctly. That can cause your mornings hard starts.

The timing should only be done by your local fuel shop.

99 ranger bad on gas did tune up still the same really bad .need ideas on how to fix?

change injectors fuel filter on 2.5 lt99 ranger bad on gas did tune up still the same really bad .need ideas on how to fix?
try checking the air pressure in your tires, and clean the air filter.99 ranger bad on gas did tune up still the same really bad .need ideas on how to fix?
a 4cyl is too small of an engine for a ranger you need a v6 for that heavy of a vehicle. but have the exhuast checked may be plugged up. could have brakes hanging, also have a diagnostic run on the computer advance auto does it for free and gives you a print out.99 ranger bad on gas did tune up still the same really bad .need ideas on how to fix?
plugged fuel filter or clogged catalytic convertor.99 ranger bad on gas did tune up still the same really bad .need ideas on how to fix?
check the air pressure in the tires for a start. It may that you have a higher ratio rear end like a 3.73 to 1. Then it will be tough to improve a lot. the only other thing is to slow down and improve your driving habits. Think economy, before speed. Good luck.99 ranger bad on gas did tune up still the same really bad .need ideas on how to fix?
normally those trucks do pretty good on fuel,id have the computer scanned and see if anything else came up that might explain why its not getting good mileage,if the plugs are gaped right in it and all else is ok ,then it should do fairly good on fuel, have the scan done on it auto zone will do this for free, and then you might know more about it,right now it could be anything wrong with it,good luck hope this helps.99 ranger bad on gas did tune up still the same really bad .need ideas on how to fix?
Hate to tell you this, but those Ford Rangers ALWAYS got lousy gas mileage. :( It might be worth your while (not to mention the FORTUNE you'll save on gas)- if you trade that old gas guzzler in.

  • Problems getting a 2004 Hyundai Tiburon GT Automatic to start after pumping fuel?

    Hello Everyone,

I have this problem with my car, whenever I go to the gas station and pump fuel into my car, my car has got the hardest time starting. When I am done pumping gas I go to turn the car on and it turns off on me. The way I get it started is as I go to turn on the car I have to press down on the gas pedal while in park for about 10 seconds and quickly change into drive to get my car moving.

This problem does not occur again after it has been turned off. My car starts up normally after turning it on and off randomly. I only have the problem where it wont start after pumping fuel.

Another problem with the car is that my RPM's keep on shifting every ones in a while, it constantly moves from 2000 to 1000 to 1500 to 500 RPM while it is in stall over a period of less than 30 seconds.

I have had my car looked at and got my fuel injectors changed and my oxygen sensor cleaned up due to a build up of carbon. Now I am not sure what to do with it. I may believe that it could be a fuel sensor or something.

If anyone out there has got any idea of how to fix this I would be greatly appreciated, I have dealt with this for the past six months and may believe the problem could get worse.

have you tried fuel treatment or had the fuel system flush out
